whooooeeee, some Christmas happened.

just a pine cone.I’ve been reading all these  and hyper-domestic blogs lately.  I even got myself involved with a multi-blog site called Blissfully Domestic (some of which is bunk and some of which is commendable, if not necessarily interesting), along with a whole slew of blogs about crafting and frugality.  I can’t really explain it, but maybe I don’t need to. :)

This time of year, naturally, there has been a lot going on in terms of Christmas decor.  In the blogosphere, I mean, because as I mentioned I’ve been writing a paper.  (which is finished.  FINISHED!!!) Someplace, I saw a tutorial for a quick-and-dirty pine cone garland, involving found pine cones, stashed ribbon, a glue gun, and (this was the only bad part) nailing the ribbon to the banister (she hung them between the banister posts, and I am SO BUMMED that I can’t find that link).  As I am not all that much interested in putting any more holes in my house, I strung my pine cones from the curtain rods in my dining room, and I think they have kind of a Christmas valance effect.

pine cone garland 2This project cost me zero dollars because I had everything on hand (except I made A&B go collect pine cones with me last weekend, when the windchill was about five degrees); I used up the leftover ribbon from Becky’s Halloween costume.  Hahahaha.
Also… while I was reading about every handmade Christmas ANYthing, I found hot pads and embellished kitchen towels that actually look pretty doable for me right now.  So I got to spend a happy hour yesterday morning at my LQS, dithering about fabrics and chatting with the quilt shop ladies until I found what I needed for THREE Christmas gifts.  Bonus: I found The Perfect Thing for Adam’s window treatments there, for 50% off.  I won’t be undertaking that project till *after* Christmas, though. :)

In my head all day today: “Bring out the holly!  Da da da da da da da, da da da da da.  Da da da DA daaah, da da da da da da da, on that evergreen bough!  For we need a little Christmas, right this very minute.  Candles in the window, carols at the spinet.  Oh, we need a little Christmas, hmm hmhm hmm hmhm, Oh we need a little Christmas NOW!”  (I was totally gonna embed that song for you, but I evidently don’t own it.  Lucky you, I guess. :) )
