I’m just talking here.

anachronistic, maybe

Dan and Adam and Becky pooled Dan’s funds to buy a generous iTunes gift certificate for my birthday. Here’s what I got:

Rilo Kiley, More Adventurous. I just love the singer’s voice; until recently I thought Rilo Kiley was her name (it’s Jenny something, which is much less interesting).

Cake, Pressure Chief and a couple of kickass singles. I would have gotten Fashion Nugget, except that Dan swears we have it in our house (I maintain that we have the case in the house) and he will set me up.

R.E.M. Out of Time, Automatic for the People, Lifes Rich Pageant, and Green. R.E.M. makes me happy every time I hear it. It’s well-crafted and attached to memories, and there’s always that bass line. There’s always an interesting bass line in an R.E.M. song. So anyway, I’ve been sitting here making a much-too-extensive to-do list for my class, listening to music that I love enough that I can’t bring myself to get up and go knit. :) When I get paid again, I’ll round out the collection with Fables of the Reconstruction and Document, and possibly Dead Letter Office, although that isn’t my favorite favorite. Then I can move on. :)
Keeping current with music trends is not my best thing; never has been. I grew up listening to the music my brothers and sisters listened to, and to the country music my parents liked. My first car (and the car I drove after that cardeveloped a fatal electrical problem) had an AM radio, and the only non-talk station was this one (although they did run the farm reports at noon and Paul Harvey, who is clearly made of Plasticene, at intervals). So I got my fair share of music older than I am, and I guess it stuck. I feel a little like I should apologize for not being more up on things, butnew music is yet another thing I depend entirely on Dan for these days. And I am happy with the way I spent my money, which is somewhat unusual for me.
